The following is his obituary which provides details of his life. He died in Bolton on 29/03/1956.
Educated: Preston Grammar School, Trinity College Cambridge, 1915-18. M.A. (Cantab.).
Research chemist, Levinstein Ltds, Blackley, Manchester, 1918-19
Research and works chemist, Messrs Rowntree and Co. Ltd., York, 1919-21
1921 joined the staff of the University of Reading as assistant agricultural analyst and demonstrator in the Department of Agricultural Chemistry
1927 appointed science teacher at Bicester County School
1930 became head of the science department at Bolton School (Girls Division)
1948 (until his death in 1956) lecturer in chemistry at Bolton Technical College.
He published numerous articles in Nature, the School Science Review and in the Science Masters’ Book. His book, A Structural Introduction to Chemistry, was published in 1958.
His obituary states “He was respected by his colleagues and admired for his resolute championship of unpopular causes.”
His address when he lived in Preston was 11 Moor Park Avenue, Preston.
His granddaughter (Rebecca Major) assumes that his brother Henry Harris (known as Cecil) also attended Preston Grammar School as he was only a year younger than Ellis.
